Cub Scout Launch in Eden Prairie (9/5/2002)
Just thought that I would drop you a note to say that the Cub
Scout launch was held on Sunday 9/1. There were about 7 scouts, and
three sisters in attendance, and we launched Estes rockets, some 3
or 4 times, for a total of 18 launches, all in the A and B engine
range. Winds were a little high, so we had to get creative with
launch aiming to avoid landing on the church whose parking lot we
used for a launch area. One Alpha was lost to the rocket gods.
All of the kids seemed to have a good time, and my son and I
brought along our level 2 rocket for show and tell time, complete
with RDAS and camera payload. Our Estes Saturn V was with us as
well, and got the appropriate amount of "oohs and aahs",
although we did not have the guts to launch it in marginal
conditions. We launched a total of 18 rockets (some 3 or 4 times),
and were done in about two hours.
I left all the moms and dads with info on MASA, as well as
promises to repeat the launch whenever they wanted to. A good time
was had by all, and I hope that we might get 2 or 3 kids (and
parents) who would like to continue in the hobby.
