Help with rocket exhibit at Lego League tournament? (10/26/1999)

The First Lego League (http://www.legomindstorms.com/first/) is an educational activity jointly sponsored by FIRST (http://www.usfirst.org/), Lego, and local businesses and volunteers. Each year, teams of elementary and middle school kids design and program an autonomous robot to accomplish a mission--this year, the mission is to go from a base to a "space station", open a hatch, and then transport foam balls ("oxygen molecules") from the base to the space station, with a variety of options and scoring
chances. (If you go to http://www.legomindstorms.com/fll/, and click on "FLL 1999 season" and then "The Challenge", you'll get the high tech multimedia version of the above. Not for the multimedia or bandwidth impaired!)

On December 11, about 75 teams from the Minnesota division (http://www.htc.honeywell.com/fll/default.asp) will meet at Benilde-St. Margaret's School in St. Louis Park for an all day tournament (sponsored by Honeywell, the Minnesota High Technology Association, and other companies). As part of that celebration, an exhibition of science and technology oriented activities is planned, something like the state fair technology building but on a smaller scale and more oriented to kids. I've been asked to invite local model rocket and HPR enthusiasts to staff an exhibit, maybe two. We have a lot of freedom, and could do anything from a static display of a bunch of rockets to computer demonstrations, half hour workshops,
giveaways, etc.

I'm hoping we can get some interested folks together to organize something for the large crowd of talented and interested kids (and their parents) that will be at the tournament. It's a great chance to (re)introduce rocketry as a hobby, generate enthusiasm, and contribute to science education in Minnesota.

Please feel free to distribute this among the various members of your organizations, propose ideas, ask questions, whatever.

I'd appreciate all the help I can get!

Cheers,
