October 2004 launch report (10/30/2004)
MASA had a launch scheduled for Saturday October 23 at the new
sod farm flying site near Nowthen. Unfortunately, the weather
got in the way...
So, on Sunday, October 24th, a few MASA members gathered at
the Elk River VFW for a "make-up" launch..
Big thanks to:
- Mike Erpelding for hauling all the gear to and from the launch
A few of the flights:
MASA members - please send in your thoughts about the
launch!
Mike Erpelding writes:
Today's rain date launch went rather well for short notice. We
had a grand total of 8 members in attendance with a grand total of
47 flights.
I arrived at the VFW at 855. Paul Jarosch was just finishing
setting up his rocketry supplies. There was a slight breeze from
the Southeast for a change. Other members started trickling in
sometime before 10 AM. The wind picked up a little as the day went
on; but I don't think it ever topped 10mph.
Some highlights of the day were:
The 3 Big Daddy drag race by David Whitaker, Lee Frisvold, and
Paul Jarosch. The race went well until ejection, when Paul's
rocket failed to deploy for a ballistic recovery.
Lee had several nice flights with his vintage Estes Mars
Lander.
Caleb Boe successfully completed his Nartrek Bronze today with
his B streamer duration flight.
